Welcome to our web site! Albuquerque Kennel Kompadres was formed in 2002 as a "friends of" the City's Animal Welfare Department. We are a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Our sole purpose is to help promote and raise money to support the work of the Department in their efforts to:
We support the Volunteer Program at the Animal Welfare Department and often seek their help and support with fund raising projects.
In accordance with our official Agreement with the City of Albuquerque and our Charter, all money that we raise goes directly back into the programs and facilities of the Animal Welfare Department. We work closely with the Department's management and staff to identify their most important and urgent needs. If for some reason Kennel Kompadres is dissolved or liquidated, all funds remaining in our financial accounts would be turned over to the City for the purposes of funding spay/neuter programs.
We are especially proud of the funding that we've provided to the Animal Welfare Department to support their Spay/Neuter Voucher Program. This program is critical to reducing the number of homeless animals in Albuquerque. Annually, the Mayor and First Lady's Dog Ball gives a boost to our funding of this important program.
Of course, we're all about the shelter animals and making sure they find forever homes! While the Animal Welfare Department manages their public shelters, the sheer volume of animals that they must deal with still leaves funding gaps for those little things that make shelter life just a bit better and the animals just a bit more adoptable. Through our fundraising, we've been able to purchase many, many dog and cat toys, cat and dog beds, litter pans, food bowls, soft cat and dog food, grooming supplies, collars and leashes, crates, feral cat boxes, cardboard carriers, dozens of towels, doggie bandanas, treats, and more! We support a wonderful and dedicated group of volunteers, too, who make sure the shelter animals receive a little more attention, interaction, and socialization.
